John graduated from Indiana University with a B.A. in Comparative Literature and a B.A. in Mathematics. He continued his post-graduate education by achieving his M.S. in Mathematics at the University of Illinois at Chicago. John has an extensive background as a tutor and a teacher with a specialty in helping students improve their math skills at various levels. However, he also has significant experience aiding in preparing for the ACT, SAT, GMAT, and GRE. John personally scored in the 98th percentile or higher on the ACT, SAT, and GMAT with the following scores (ACT: 32 (98th percentile), SAT: 1550 (Q: 770 V: 800), GMAT: 760 (99th percentile)).
John has an array of teaching and tutoring experiences that have allowed him to become a knowledgeable, understanding, and flexible MyGuru tutor with many strengths. He was a Teaching Assistant for the Mathematics Department at the University of Illinois, responsible for conducting discussion sessions and creating and grading subject material and exams. He also taught Pre-Calculus and Calculus 1 in that position.
Previously, John was a tutor with Ivy League Tutoring, another professional tutoring company. He tutored students from the ages of 4 to 45 in numerous subjects. He specialized in mathematics, from counting to multivariable caluclus, and test preparation - all sections of the tests, whether verbal, quantitative, qualitative, writing, or mathematics.
From 2006 to 2007, John was Chair of the Math Department at Chicago Academy for the Arts. He controlled curriculum for all math classes taught at the school and also taught various classes himself. In addition to these duties, John personally conducted an independent study to help especially motivated students prepare for the AP Calculus BC exam.
One of the more unique parts of John’s lengthy career in education is his time spent at Le Rosey School in Rolle, Switzerland. At this bilingual boarding school located halfway between Geneva and Lausanne, John prepared and managed an SAT prep program for English and French speaking students who wanted to attend college in the United States.
