GRE & GMAT Time Management Webinar: January 27th, 2021

One of MyGuru's top online graduate school test prep instructors discusses how to increase your baseline score by improving your time management skills.

GRE vs GMAT

  • Concept-based tests
  • GRE concepts: vocabulary/reading comp/math

Understanding the Test Setup

  • Computer adaptive
    • GRE
      • Partially adaptive
      • Begins with median difficult section
    • GMAT
      • Adaptive by question
      • Can only come back to questions on the GRE
      • Do your best to answer all questions but NOT leave questions blank
      • Be strategic about which questions you spend time on
      • Allot the same amount of time for a question at the beginning of the test as well as the end of the test

Timing

  • GMAT Quant
    • 2 minutes per problem (problem solving)
    • 1:45 minutes for data sufficiency problems
  • GRE Quant
    • 1:45 per problem
    • 1:30 for quantitative comparison problems
  • It's okay to go a little bit over the time limit sometimes
  • Get the fundamentals down and then do timed drills to get a sense of how you're doing

Quant Strategies

  1. Read carefully
  2. Identify what is being asked
  3. Identify concept or concepts being tested
  4. Look for clues
  5. Simplify
  6. Difficulty assessment
    • Give yourself a fair amount of time to determine difficulty, and whether to attempt it
  7. Choose your strategies
