Subject Verb Agreement: Collective Nouns

Collective nouns designate large groups of people or things. For example:

People: agency, army, band, audience, committee, congress, team

Things: baggage, furniture.

These nouns are almost always singular on the GMAT.

Examples:

The agency controls petroleum products regulation.

The band plays well.

The furniture is old and drab.
